SHILLONG, JAN 15: Two African nationals were arrested in East Jaintia Hills district for entering the country illegally.
James Obafor Omeya (32) and Paul Chidiebare Nwoon (28) from Nigeria were detained by Umtyra CP staff while they were travelling in a night super bus (AS-01-HC-9034) from Agartala to Guwahati on Tuesday.
“They were detained for interrogation but since they could not produce any valid documents to support their entry into India, they were arrested,” Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh said on Wednesday.
A case has been registered at Khliehriat police station under the Foreigners’ Act and investigation has been started.
With these arrests, the SP said East Jaintia Hills police have arrested a total of 24 foreign nationals in the last 3-4 months.
“We are keeping a strict watch round the clock to thwart any such attempts in the future as well,” he said.
