3 selected for M’laya Day Award

SHILLONG, JAN 16: The state Cabinet has approved the recommendation of the Advisory Committee for the Meghalaya Day Award.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting held on Wednesday, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said that the committee has recommended three persons for the Award.

It has recommended the name of Dr P Nongtdu, Principal of Jaintia Eastern College for receiving the U Tirot Sing Award for arts and literature, he said.

According to him, Nongtdu had written quite a number of books and articles.

He said Rev George Mamalasari, former Bishop of Tura Diocese, has been selected for the Patogan Sangma Award for social service for his contribution towards the upliftment of the tribal people.

Meanwhile, Eugene K Marak, a renowned Taekwondo player and master coach, will be presented with the U Kiang Nangbah Award for excellence in the field of sports.
