37-year-old dies of COVID-19, death toll at 78

SHILLONG, OCT 22: A 37-year-old woman died of COVID-19, pushing the death toll in the state to 78 on Thursday.

 Fullmai Dhar, a resident of Nartiang, West Jaintia Hills district passed away at the Jowai Maternity & Child Health hospital at 12.20 pm on Wednesday, Director of Health and Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.

“The cause of death was due to cardiopulmonary arrest, type-I respiratory failure and COVID-19,” he said.

The state has also recorded a highest single-day recovery of 307 COVID-19 patients and detected 99 new cases on Thursday.

The new cases include 46 from East Khasi Hills district, 29 Ri Bhoi district, 12 West Garo Hills district, 7 South Garo Hills district, 2 West Jaintia Hills district and one each in North Garo Hills district, South West Khasi Hills district and West Khasi Hills district.

Out of the 307 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War said, 205 are from East Khasi Hills, 51 Ri Bhoi, 28 West Garo Hills, 8 South Garo Hills, 7 South West Khasi Hills, 3 South West Garo Hills, 2 East Garo Hills, 2 West Jaintia Hills and 1 East Jaintia Hills.

He said 6,981 COVID-19 patients have been discharged as on date.

The state has detected a total of 8,721 COVID-19 out of which 1,661 are active cases, 6,981 recovered and 78 deaths.

East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,070  infections, that include 26 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 1,044 civilians, followed by Ri Bhoi 169 and West Garo Hills 164.

In the other districts, 74 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 51 in East Garo Hills, 48 in West Khasi Hills, 37 in South Garo Hills, 20 in North Garo Hills, 17 in East Jaintia Hills, 5 in South West Khasi Hills and 6 in South West Garo Hills.

Over 694persons are undergoing home quarantine and isolation while 505 persons are under institutional quarantine.

“Till date, swab samples of 1,93,190 persons have been tested of which 1,84,470 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

There are 50,997 entrants from outside the state.
