Govt appoints authority to issue detention order

SHILLONG, JULY 12: Secretary in-charge Home (Police) R Rapthap has been appointed as the authority to issue order of detention to prevent any person (including a foreigner) from engaging in illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

A notification issued by the chief secretary DP Wahlang on July 7 said, “In partial modification of this department’s notification dated December 20, 2022 and under the power conferred vide sub section (1) of Section 3 of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Act, 1988, the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to empower R Rapthap, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Home (Police) department to be an authority to issue order of detention in respect of any person (including a foreigner) with a view to prevent such person or persons from engaging in illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, with immediate effect and till further orders.”
