Shillong, Sept 29: Sixty five years old Reverend Sang Kunga Miller of New Life Church was arrested by the police Friday night for the rape of seventeen years old girl who was staying in a hostel run by him. He is also accused of molesting children staying in his hostel cum residence as police swung into action and rescued five children with the help of Child Line.
The arrest of Miller followed after an FIR lodged with the Laitumkhrah police station by the Civil Society of Women Organisation (CSWO) accusing him of raping a seventeen years old girl staying in his hostel. He has also been accused of child exploitation.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that the girl was repeatedly molested and was raped in 2010. She informed. “The girl had shared this with her mother and friend many times, but they did not believe,” It was the girl’s guardian who approached the CSWO .
Kharshiing informed that the victim revealed that Rev Miller had abused many hostellers. She said,“There were many girls who were staying in the hostel but fearing him kept silent”
Rev Miller has also been charged with exploiting minor children in the age group of 7 to 17 years old. Kharshiing informed Rev Miller had brought these children from poor families from the Meghalaya –Assam border and made them do all the hostel chores.
Kharshiing informed Miller has been running the school with the help from foreign sponsors from Hungary and England in the name of the children just because he giving them a roof, food and school.
But the misdeeds of Miller spilled when two boys from the hostel fled the home on Friday and “disclosed” to Kharshiing about the molestation. Kharshiing said, “The boys disclosed that girls who are lodged in the hostel often leave after two to three months because of his misdeed.”
Police in the meantime has admitted Rev Miller in Shillong Civil Hospital even as they have stated the investigation.-By Our Reporter
