Action sought against AAG

SHILLONG, MAY 8: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) has demanded that the state government must remove additional advocate general (AAG) SP Mahanta from the post even as it informed that soon the organization would petition to the Shillong Bar Association (SBA) requesting that it must take action against Mahanta for his involvement in the land grabbing case.

The demand came in the wake of a judgment passed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate  (CJM) reversing and setting aside an order passed by a lower court which granted relief to Mahanta in a land grabbing case last year.

“We would write to the SBA to take cognizance of the case and action be taken against its member so that it will deter others from involving in such an act as grabbing others land,” CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said on Wednesday.

Kharshiing seems to back the NRI Tushar Nath Bhattacherjee whose land Mahanta is alleged to have grabbed. Bhattacherjee had alleged that the senior lawyer had forged his signature for grabbing the land.- By Our Reporter
