14-day judicial custody for Champion

Shillong, August 26: GNLA chairman Champion R Sangma Sunday was remanded to fourteen days judicial custody by first class magistrate. The militant leader was brought amidst heavy security to the judicial court on Sunday located behind the East Khasi hills deputy commissioner’s office.

Speaking to Oh! Meghalaya the militant leader’s advocate Sujit Dey informed that the Williamnagar Investigating Officer (IO) had asked for fourteen days police custody, which he objected. He said, “I objected to the Williamnagar IO as the court does not fall under his jurisdiction.”

Dey said that he will now wait for the court’s order regarding the future of his client after the fourteen days judicial custody is over.

Regarding the militant leader’s earlier prayer to the court that his counsel be allowed to be present during the police interrogation, Dey said, “I was allowed to be present during one of the police interrogation and so, the court had heard his prayer.”

Dey, however, said that he has no idea whether his client was being supplied with newspapers as he had inquired about it from him.
