Agnes Kharshiing arrested for obstructing officials

Shillong, November 8: The Civil Society Women’s Organization(CSWO) president Agnes Kharshiing, was arrested by the police on Friday for allegedly obstructing an eviction drive conducted by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) at Umsawli village. 

Kharshiing was arrest following an FIR lodged by MUDA authority alleging that she was obstructed an eviction drive conducted at Mawdiangdiang in the New Shillong Township (NST).

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said, “We have arrested her based on an FIR lodged by MUDA authority.”Kharshiing had gone to Umsawli area in the NST to protest against the eviction drive carried out by additional district magistrate DM Wahlang against alleged illegal settlers. The eviction drive was conducted at around 10 am.

Kharshiing was detained midway between Shillong and NST and brought to the Sadar police station. She was arrested after MUDA executive engineer Paul Micky Kharwaniang formally lodged an FIR in the afternoon at Rynjah police station her.

Police will produce her before the court later. –By Our Reporter
