AIGU demands embossed number plates

Shillong, August 19: The All India Garo Union (AIGU) has demanded that the state government must install “embossed microchip registration number plates” while implementing the HSRP number plates as the HSRP issued by the Meghalaya government is not only costly but does not contain any microchip to enable tracing of the stolen vehicles.

AIGU  feels that the government should scrap the deal with Shimnit Utsch Co. Mumbai, for supplying the  HSRP which is a normal hand-written number plates.

In a memorandum addressed to the State transport minister AT Mondal, AIGU president Enison M Marak said, “We demand the government to stop issuing of meaningless HSRP immediately, and instead install embossed microchip registration number plates with sincere interest to help people recover their stolen vehicles.”

Marak warned that if the government fails to concede to their demand, the public will be left with no option but to rebel against the government refusal to oblige with its demand.

Buttering its demand for a embossed microchip number plates, Marak informed that many vehicles installed with the HSRP which were reportedly stolen have not been traced so far. – By Our Reporter
