Air Marshal Sharma takes charge of Eastern Air Command

Shillong, Dec 1:  Air Marshal Ravi Kant Sharma AVSM VM has been appointed as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command Saturday. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Fighters’ stream of IAF in June 1975.

A Qualified Flying Instructor, Sharma is an Experimental Test Pilot and has flown around 3300 hours on several different types of aircraft including Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). He has been awarded with “Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ (AVSM) and Vayu Sena Medal (VM). He was also
commended by Chief of Air Staff twice.

Sharma has commanded an operational squadron of IAF, Test Pilot school and Prototype Test Squadron at ASTE. A graduate of Defence Services Staff College, he was also project director (Flight Test) of the ongoing LCA Project. The Air Marshal has served abroad as the Defence Attaché. He had commanded a premier Air Force base in the South-Western sector, after which he took over as the Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Defence Planning).
