AITC Meghalaya attacks BJP Govt’s tenure, calls it ‘8 years of shame’

SHILLONG, MAY 30: The opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Monday took a dig at the BJP-led NDA government for its failures on global parameters during the past eight years.

In a statement, the AITC Meghalaya said on the one hand, the Narendra Modi’s govt had completed 8 years of rule but on the other hand, the country is slipping down on a variety of global developmental indices.

“The government is thumping its chest for its policies and welfare schemes while the opposition is hitting hard on misgovernance, communalisation, and the massive shrinking of the economy in its regime,” it said.

AITC Meghalaya also tweeted, “INDIA slipped to 53rd position in the latest Democracy Index. INDIA ranks 101 out of 116 in the World Hunger Index. INDIA ranks 136 out of 150 on the World Happiness Index. PM @narendramodi, thanks to you, India is grabbing headlines for the wrong reasons #8YearsOfShame.”

The tweet was widely shared and circulated in the Meghalayan digital landscape under the hashtag ‘8YearsOfShame’.

AITC Meghalaya which is the prime opposition party led by Mukul Sangma is time and again drawing attention to the discrepancies and misgovernance by the so-called double engine at the central-state level.

“Economists and political pundits have stated that even prior to the pandemic, demonetization, the implementation of GST, and the problem of bad loans had begun to impede India’s economic growth. The economy is also widely impacted by the rise of communalisation and its continuous effect on small-scale businesses and traders,” the party said.

Further, the opposition party said that the poll-bound state of Meghalaya led by Conrad Sangma under the MDA alliance umbrella which the BJP is a part of is being cornered too over a series of allegations, scams, and corruption.

“It will not be tough for a layman to comprehend the similar pattern that the primary engine(BJP) and secondary engine (MDA) had followed in taking the country and Meghalaya down on all the significant governance indices and global democracy practices,” it said.

“AITC acting as a responsible opposition is continuing to expose the misrule, irregularities and malfunctioning of the double engine govt present in different states of the country. AITC will never stop voicing against the authoritarian forces and pledged to safeguard the rights and values of each and every individual of this country,” the party further stated.
