AITUC elects new office bearers

SHILLONG, AUG 27: The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has elected Thrumen Sangma as its new president and Richard Thabah as general secretary during its general meeting held in Shillong on Saturday.

 

The meeting has resolved to write to the Chief Minister, Meghalaya on some issues concerning the grass-root workers like Muster Roll employees, Anganwadis, Ashas etc who are facing hardship due to price rise of essential commodities including petrol and diesel prices as they are low-paid workers who can hardly make both ends meal with meagre wages of the present rate which is not comparable at all with their counterparts in other States like Kerala, Assam etc.

 

The meeting ended with a pledge to work hard for the welfare of the workers who are an unorganized and helpless section of the people in the state of Meghalaya. The meeting promised to work in tandem with the central trade unions of the nation on various common issues concerning the poorer sections of the people in the state.
