SHILLONG, SEPT 23: The alleged discrepancies in the result of the 2-year Diploma of Elementary Education (D.EL.ED) announced recently have raised severe criticism from the teaching community in the state.
Terming the result as incomplete’ schoolteachers have alleged that most of the internal marks were not included in the mark sheets and blatantly the subjects where the candidates appeared have been marked as absent.
What is more ironic is that some of the teachers have even scored more than the 100 which is full mark.
The result for the 2013-2014 batch of around 4800 teachers was announced by National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) on September 9 after a delay of over 9 months.
As per the reply of the NIOS to an RTI filed by Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA), the result was supposed to be declared on December last year but could not because of the delay in submitting the internal marks by the study centres.
There are around 82 study centres under the Directorate of Educational Research & Training (DERT). While the study centres are supposed to submit the internal marks for practice teaching/workshops, the marks for theory are by the NIOS.
The objective of D.EL.ED programme is to enable the state to have trained teachers to provide quality education to the students.
Aggrieved teachers from East Khasi hills, Ri Bhoi and West Khasi hills districts on Friday convened a meeting and threatened to resort to agitations if the authority concerned fails to rectify the anomalies.
The teachers are demanding that the NIOS issue a fresh, correct and accurate result.
Addressing newsmen, teachers’ body convener JJ Lyngdoh said, “We are shocked to see that the NIOS has declared an incomplete result despite the delay of over 9 months. This is nothing but like playing with the future of the teachers.”
Lyngdoh informed that following the growing opposition from the teaching community, the deputy director of NIOS on September 14 had sought for 10 days’ time to rectify the anomalies, which is going to expire on Monday.
“If there is no sign of action to address this problem within September 26, we will be compelled to stage a black-flag protest in front of the DERT office here,” Lyngdoh said.
Stating that 90 per cent of the result is incomplete, he said the NIOS has failed to include the internal marks secured by the teachers. “Moreover some of the teachers were marked as absent on a subject which they had appeared during the examination conducted in October last year,” Lyngdoh added.
The teachers also lambasted the state government for its failure to intervene into the plight faced by the teachers who had taking up government sponsored training programme.
Lyngdoh said despite the delay in announcing the results, there has been no intervention on the part of the state government.-By Our Reporter
