Shillong, August 22: The A’chik National Volunteers Council (ANVC-B) has called for twelve hours bandh beginning at 5 am to 5 pm August 24 in Garo hills to demand the resignation of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Chief Executive Member Purno K Sangma and his deputy Brigedi N Marak for corrupt practices.

The decision to call a bandh August 24 was communicated by the ANVC (B) chief of anti corruption wing Nawang Sangma in a press statement issued Wednesday.

The statement accused both Sangma and Marak of collecting huge amount from different individuals by promising them to allot coal market and council gates at throw away prices. It claimed this has led to the bankruptcy of the council’s treasury as the revenue from gates, haats, were the only sources of revenue for improving the council financial condition.

The statement said that the council treasury continues to be penniless and the two thousand employees’ faces are facing difficulties because of the greediness of its leaders. It demanded that the corrupts should resign before council sinks in unrecoverable debts.

The ANVC (B) has warned that failure their warning will bring in series of agitations which will adversely affect the political party of Sangma and Marak.- By Our Reporter
