ANVC demand for its benefit: GNLA C-in-C

SHILLONG, JAN 12:  The Garo hills based militant outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) commander in chief (C-in-C) Sohan D Shira alleged that the A’chik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) demand of Rs 5 crore to run the district council has been made for their own benefits.

In a statement issued Saturday Shira said,  “They (ANVC) is demanding Rs 5 crore from the government to run the autonomous district council for one year, which I think will be a good opportunity for ANVC leaders to buy expensive vehicles and build palatial houses.”

Even as Shira said that as a former leader of the ANVC, he is happy at what he termed as “progressive steps” taken by the ANVC towards strengthening the powers of the ADC and succeeding it, but, nonetheless, he cautioned that after leading the council for one year it would be beneficial if the ANVC continue to maintaining peace and would refrain from monopolising the powers and the businesses of the council.- By Our Reporter
