SHILLONG, FEB 27: Saying that it was shocked by the state government’s decision to nominate former Youth Congress president Gabriel Wahlang as nominated KHADC’s MDC, the ARPA MDCs have threatened to resign en-mass and face fresh elections than allow administrator rule in KHADC.

ARPA parliamentary party leader and KHADC CEM Albert Nongrum said he disagrees and protest against the action taken by the state government in nominating Wahlang as MDC. He told reporters on Friday, “We were shocked and came to know about Wahlang nomination only after the session.”.

Nongrum argued that ARPA delayed in proposing the name of a nominated MDC because there was no “urgency”. Quoting the rules, he said the rules itself states that district council may submit its recommendation on this, if it so desires but it did not specifically that we need to do within a stipulated time period.

“At the session today, we were caught by surprise to see that opposition’s strengthened has jump from 14 to 15,” Nongrum said.

Terming  Wahlang’s nomination as indication of the Congress’ power hunger, Nongrum said, “This also shows that the Congress led government’s political will centers around what suit its self interest.”He wondered why the state government was not as quick in approving important bills passed by the KHADC.

The PDF leaders also asserted that they would rather prefer fresh elections than to step down or wait for imposition of administrator rule in KHADC.

“We want to take decision of the people. We will have to take an extreme decision on the matter,” HSPDP leader KP Pangniang said.

UDP leader Teinwel Dkhar however said that the matter would be taken up with the party’s high command. “However, all the UDP MDCs prefer to go to the people again,” he claimed.

Nongrum , who is a KHNAM MDC,  said, “We would resign as elected members of the KHADC and face fresh election rather allow imposition of the administrator’s rule in the Council.”- By Our Reporter
