SHILLONG, AUG 16: The Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) president L Kharbani said that the FIR filed against him by a relative of the HANM women’s wing former general secretary Susan Nongrum was nothing but to defame and tarnish him and the organization .
Kharbani who was released on August 14 after he was arrested by the police on July 3 said that the HANM will decide future course of action against Nongrum and her sister Caroline Nongrum for defaming him and HANM.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Kharbani said, “On December 23 last year, Susan Nongrum alias Aidalin had taken a loan of Rs 1.50 lakh from him. However on February this year, some of the members came to me for loan for some urgent work and remembering that Nongrum has to repay the loan, I call up asking her to repay the money at the earliest.”
Kharbani claims that Susan instead had her sister Caroline Nongrum to file an FIR against him alleging that he had called her up to threaten her which was not true.
According to him, Susan Nongrum had threatened him earlier just because that he had informed the organization on the loan issue which led to her resignation as the general secretary of the women’s wing. He informed that Nongrum had taken loan in name of the women’s wing which was later found that it was for some other purpose.
Kharbani also said that police without any investigation had arrested him based on the FIR which led him to spend 1 month 11 days in prison. – By Our Reporter
