Assam advocate arrested for aiding carjackers

Shillong, Nov 3: Meghalaya police arrested an advocate Tariqul Islam from Assam for his involvement in aiding the carjackers and brought him to Shillong Saturday. He will be produced in the court Sunday.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said, “We arrested him from Assam after we got transit warrant.”  Islam was arrested for assisting the carjackers arrested from Upper Shillong Friday when they were smuggling a stolen car through Shillong..

Islam is the eighth person to be arrested in the carjacking case.  The other six who have been arrested are Md. Nazarul Ali Islam from Nalbari, Raju Boro of Ganeshpara, Md Hasmad Ali of Barpeta, Raj Thakuria of Mongoldoi, KH Devavarata from Imphal and Kamal Rosaili of Happy Valley.

The court has remanded the seven carjackers to ten days police custody. The carjackers had stolen Bolero (AS 01 AV 5117) from Basistha-Beltola – a place located at the outskirt of Guwahati in Assam and were on transit when they were arrested.- By Our Reporter
