Assembly panel review cases of crimes against women & children

SHILLONG, AUG 23: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment has reviewed the status of Crime against Women and Children in the two districts of Jaintia Hills region on August 21-22.

Chairperson of the Committee, Santa Mary Shylla, chaired the meetings along with members of the Committee, including Miani D Shira MLA, Adelbert Nongrum MLA, Gabriel Wahlang MLA, Marthon J. Sangma MLA and Mathew B. Kurbah MLA.

Speaking to reporters, the Chairperson emphasized the significance of speedy justice delivery, particularly in POCSO cases.

She stated that she has directed district authorities to ensure that the victims receive the necessary care throughout the entire process.

Shylla said that the Committee will follow up on the cases and hold similar meetings in all districts of the state.

The meeting at East Jaintia Hills was held at the DC’s office, Khliehriat. Shri Abhilash Baranwal IAS Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, Shri Banraplang Jyrwa, MPS Addl. SP, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat, and other officials of the district were in attendance.

The meeting at West Jaintia Hills was held at Jowai. BS Sohliya, Deputy Commissioner of WJH, Chemphang Syrti, SP, WJH, CW Lyngdoh, MPS, Dy. SP (HQ), WJH, and other officials of the district attended the meet. Additionally, the Committee also inspected the one stop centre at Khliehriat on

Monday.
