Bangla with Indian voter ID

SHILLONG, MAY 13: A Bangladeshi was arrested by the BSF with fake Indian voter’s card while he was attempting to jump the Indo-Bangla border along Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills. The Bangladeshi identified as Anamuddin (28), resident of Kuargori village, Sylhet District (Bangladesh) was apprehended by BSF troops stationed at Border Out Post Khaliang in East Jaintia Hills while he was trying to cross over International Border,” a BSF spokesperson informed.

“During search, a voter ID No. 155 with fake name as Atuar Rahman, S/o- Late Yasim Ali, Village Bairabgar, Post Office Bazarghat, Police Station Rattabari, Karimganj District (Assam) issued by Deputy Commissioner Karimganj (Assam), dated November 15, 2006, Indian currency amounting to Rs 27,580, one mobile phone with one Indian SIM and one Bangladeshi SIM were recovered from his possession,” the spokesman elaborated.

However, there was no information on whether the Bangladeshi national with fake Indian voter’s card had indeed “exercised his right to franchise” in India.

“He was trying to cross over to Bangladesh, when he was nabbed and produced the fake voter’s ID to try and establish that he was Indian. Such people come to Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya to work in the coal mines and there is no information if he had voted,” a BSF official said.

“He has been handed over to the police for further investigation,” he added.

In another incident, two Bangladeshi smugglers were also apprehended by BSF troops at Dawki in West Jaintia Hills, while they were trying to cross the Indo-Bangla border yesterday.

“During search, bottles of liquor, Indian and Bangladeshi currencies and two mobile phones with Bangladeshi SIMs were recovered from their possession,” the BSF official informed.- By Our Reporter
