SHILLONG, JULY 1: East Khasi hills SP (city) Vivek Syiem has warned gullible public not to fall prey to anyone who calls them up and offer to sell gold at a cheap rate saying that this is just a ploy to those who falls in their net.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Syiem informed about the modus operandi of these people saying that it has come to the notice of the police that ,there are certain persons who call up the public over phone claiming that they are from Lakhimpur district of Assam and found gold which they are ready to offer for sale at a very cheap price.
Syiem said that the public are cautioned not to fall prey to such offers as these callers are criminals whose only intention is to convince the person or intending buyer and ask him/her to meet them after which they would kidnap them and release the person only after a ransom is paid.
Syeim warned saying that some persons who had fallen prey to this racket have not been found till now while the case is still being investigated by Assam police after the state police have taken up the matter with Assam police for nabbing the culprits.- By Our Reporter
