BJP :CBI probe on MTAB

SHILLONG MAR 5 : The state BJP has demanded a CBI inquiry into the purchase of M-TAB that was distributed to Class 12 students under the Chief Minister’s Digital Learning Aid Scheme incurring Rs 6 crore expenditure.

Quoting an RTI revelation, Meghalaya unit of BJP president Khlur Singh Lyngdoh said the RTI documents revealed that the state government purchased 25,000 MTABS for Rs. 8,990 each ending up with a total amount of Rs. 22, 4750000 while the actual printed price on packet of each tablet is Rs. 6,850.

Lyngdoh said the same tablets could have been bought by the government at Rs 1,712 50000 for 25,000 pieces at the actual price of Rs. 6,850.  He said the BJP believes that the money was misuse as over Rs. 6 crore was spent in the name of MTAB distribution.

Lyngdoh also stated that the state IT minister AL Hek said that he will ask the IT department for a full report on the expenditure incurred in the purchasing of MTABS but till now he has not explained why the government purchased the tablets at higher rates as the same MTAB model XTRON Z704 is available in the market at a lower price.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Lyngdoh said this proves the state government’s  culpability. He said, “It is astonished to hear that despite the government buying the tablets in bulk directly from the company, it had to shell out such a hefty price above the market rate all insinuating the rampant and enormous corruption Dr Mukul Sangma and his ministers are involved.”

Lyngdoh also question whether proper tender was floated for the scheme and  how M/S Lava International was selected as the final bidder for the supply and distribution of tablets.

Lyngdoh said when when the state is going through financial crisis it is painful to see how the ruling party is using the state machinery to fulfill its desires of corruption by indulging in such scams. He it is time that the Congress stop taking people of the state for a ride and be more accountable for the zillions number of central and state schemes available with the government.

Lyngdoh said the BJP demand that the people of the state have the right to know the entire truth of the MTAB scam and this is possible only through a CBI investigation.- By Our Reporter
