BJP will contest to win, not to split votes

Shillong, Sept 24: Taking a potshot at the Congress and its coalition partners in Meghalaya, the BJP made it clear that in the coming Assembly election early next year the party will field candidates solely to defeat the Congress and not to split the votes and make candidates of other political parties win.

In a statement issued Monday, State BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakbratory said that people are fed up with the Congress and its allies “misrule” and the saffron party is preparing electoral strategies to defeat the Congress in the 2013 Assembly polls. The party said that allies-UDP, HSPDP- of the Congress in the Mukul Sangma led coalition government must equally share the blames as there has been no development during the last four years.

Chakraborty statement informed that the State  BJP president HS Syiemlieh, who will be attending the national executive meeting at Faridabad, Haryana on  September 26 will discuss with the high command on different aspect of the Meghalaya election.  It said that the selection of candidates will not be a problem as BJP members are well disciplined but warned  if anybody breached the party discipline it will be compelled to take strong action against such members.

Speaking about the criteria for selection of the candidates the statement said “winability” will be given due consideration but the candidates’ integrity towards the party and his/her organizing credibility in the mandal will also be taken into account.

Saying that the party is has observed tendency among some individuals who place themselves above the party, the statement said this no longer acceptable in the BJP in Meghalaya. It expressed confidence that the BJP will be able to send some of its members to the State assembly in the next election.- By Our Reporter
