BJP will decide to pull out of NPP-led MDA Govt within a month’s time: Dr Chuba Ao

SHILLONG, SEP 3: BJP national vice president and Meghalaya In-charge Dr Chuba Ao on Saturday said that the party will take a final call on whether to pull out of the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government within a period of one month.

“We are also planning (to take a decision) within one month on whether we will do so, we may withdraw support (to the MDA government). Discussion is going on. We will discuss it again with the national president,” Dr Ao told reporters after a party meeting.

He accused the NPP of running the MDA government at the cost of the BJP.  “In Meghalaya, we will see how these people are running at the cost of us but we are not running our government at the cost of them…,” Dr Ao said.

When asked, the BJP leader said, “We are working because we should have certain strategies as to why we are withdrawing (support) and what will be our next strategy to work.”

On NPP’s decision not to work with BJP, Dr Ao said he has seen the statement of the NPP national president Conrad K Sangma that his party wants to go alone in the upcoming 2023 assembly elections in the state but without the BJP nobody can form the new government in Meghalaya.

“That is their (NPP) decision and that has nothing to do with the BJP. We cannot dictate them and we cannot request them also but without the support of the BJP, nobody can form the new government in the state that I guarantee,” he added.

Referring to the several allegations of corruption raised by the BJP against the MDA government, the Meghalaya in-charge said, “We got complaints but unfortunately we did not get papers which we have to prove. We are waiting until we have started working. As soon as these papers come, ED will be there, CBI and so many central agencies will be after them.”

Dr Ao said the party had already instructed the party workers to collect more evidence on the matter.
