Blockade declared,toppling not interested

ilpSHILLONG, SEPT 29: Denying the allegation that it wants to topple chief minister Mukul Sangma, the conglomerate of ten ngos asserted that it has no interest in power politics even as it announced three days night road blockade starting from October 1 as part of its ongoing agitation to demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

FKJGP information & publicity secretary Eldie N Lyngdoh said on Sunday that the night road blockade will be held on October 1, 3 and 4 from 8pm to 5am. The night road blockade will be held in all the eleven districts of the state

Lyngdoh informed that the ngos in a meeting has resolved to continue intensifying their agitations as a mark of protest against the state government’s adamant attitude towards their demand.”

The ngos have also termed the MUA-II coalition government decision to implement the proposed ‘Regulation of Landlords and Tenants Verification Bill’ contrary to the wish of the people of the state.

The state cabinet has recently approved the draft Regulation of Landlords and Tenants Verification Bill which will be table for consultation with the ‘public” on October 3.

Lyngdoh said instead of implementing the ILP the government is buying time to introduce an Act which will only suit the need and requirement of the landlord and also protect the outsiders who come to the state and stay as tenants.”

Lyngdoh said, “We strongly oppose and will not accept the decision of the government to introduce the RLTV bill in the state as the bill is not effective enough to tackle the issue of influx and has been proposed to introduce just as eyewash.”

The ngos instead feels that the Government should implement the ILP, a strong law that has teeth to ensure that influx and illegal immigration are checked and prevented.

With regard to the allegation of toppling the Sangma led MUA II coalition government, Lyngdoh said the ten ngos have no interest in playing politics or to topple the Mukul led government like what the chief minister had earlier alleged. – By Our Reporter
