BPO promotion workshop

SHILLONG,JAN 30: To promote the North East BPO Promotion Scheme (NEBPS) under Digital India Programme, a workshop was organized by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) Government of India in association with state government IT department, and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) at Hotel Polo Towers, Shillong.

The workshop was organized to create awareness about the scheme and to encourage investment in setting up BPO, ITES operation in the north eastern region.

Rajiv Kumar, Joint Secretary, DeitY, informed that the objective of the North East BPO Promotion Scheme is to create employment opportunities for the local youth in the north eastern region by promoting the IT industry particularly by setting the BPO,ITES operations in the region.

Under the North East BPO Promotion Scheme, the union government will provide financial supports in the form of Viability Gap Funding, Training support and special incentives to eligible companies for promotion of BPO operations in the region for employment generation and balanced regional growth, during the remaining period of 12th Five Year Plan, said Kumar

The workshop was also attended by senior officials from DeitY which includes SS Garg, Sr. director, RS Jenwar, Jt. Director, Omkar Rai, Director General, STPI, among others.-By Our Reporter
