BSF detect tunnel

SHILLONG, MAR 8: BSF troops today detected a tunnel along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills.

A BSF statement informed that the tunnel was detected at Gujangpara area, and it was strongly suspected that it was the work of cattle smugglers to facilitate transportation of cattle into the neighbouring country.

As BSF troops have been intensifying patrolling along the border, today, two border guards identified as Amit Kutre and Puneet Kumar detected the tunnel.

The tunnel is said to be 3×2 in dimension, and is around 20-25 feet deep with a dead end.

Moreover, the BSF statement noted that after analysing the terrain, it appeared that the miscreants were required to dig another 200 metres to reach to the other end under the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence (IBBF).

P K Dubey, Inspector General Meghalaya has praised the good work done by the BSF jawans at the border in detecting the tunnel.

The area in and around Gujangpara is said to have become very sensitive due to increase in cattle smuggling recently.
