BSNL football tourney take off despite bandh

 

Urban Affair minister Ampareen Lyngdoh declaring open the BSNL football tourney in JN stadium Tuesday

Shillong, Oct 9: Despite the twelve hours HANM bandh, the 12th All India BSNL Football Tournament got off to a colorful opening at the JN Complex polo ground with eleven teams from different parts of country including host NE-I Circle (Meghalaya,Mizoram and Tripura) taking part.

Declaring open the tournament, Meghalaya urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh hoisted the BSNL flag amidst the march past by MLP battalion . The minister was accompanied by CGMT BSNL NE-I Circle DP Singh.

Welcoming the guests, Singh stressed upon the service of BSNL and its strive to improve and felt that no other but sports persons with proper team spirit can deliver the type of service the BSNL intends to give to its customers.

Singh welcomed all the participants from MTNL Delhi, MTNLMumbai, West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Punjab, J&K,NE-II Circle and Maharashtra.

Lyngdoh encouraged the teams from different parts of country to the beautiful city of Shillong.

She also mentioned that despite the bandh the opening ceremony could take place with lot of spectators around which she said is a positive sign of the state towards development.

Lyngdoh also appreciated the services of BSNL in remote parts of the State.

Following are the results today

1. Punjab beat NE-II Circle 2-0 at 2nd ground in Polo- Match started at 7-00 AM – Pool C

2. Karnataka demolished the weakest team MTNL Delhi 7-0 at the same ground – 8-30 Am – Pool B

3. Host Team NE-I defeated MTNL Mumbai 2-0 – Pool D

scorers Ricky Sohtun  from Shillong and K.Jamatia from Ambasa (TRIPURA)

4. Tamilnadu beat NE-II 4-1 –Pool C

5. Maharasttra beat weakest team MTNL Delhi 9-0 – Pool B

6. Kerala last in the same group of host team beat MTNL Mumbai 4-0 – Pool D
