Businessman drags police officer to court

businessSHILLONG, SEPT 14: A South West Khasi hills district businessman Hari Sarkar has petition to the ADM court at Mawkyrwat demanding legal action against a officer in-charge of Borsora police outpost for alleged “atrocities” and “favouritism”.

“A petition against the atrocities and favouritism by the Sub-Inspector (SI) Bablu R Marak was filed with the district court of ADM on August last for legal action,”  counsel PK Bora told reporters at a news conference on Saturday.

Hari Sarkar who runs a mechanical workshop business in Borsora bazar for the past 18 years said, “SI Marak has made my life miserable just because of the influence of a business partner from Delhi Dilbag Nashier.”

“On August 4 last, Marak and Nashier along with others came to my workshop and forced me to sign a business agreement of Rs 9 lakh,” Sarkar said.

Bora informed that as per the agreement, Sarkar was forced to pay Rs 9 lakh to Nashier. He alleged that Nashier had bribed the police officer to execute order against Sarkar.

According to the aggrieved businessman, earlier Nashier had contacted him for partnership business to be styled as M/S Mary Enterprise in Borsora. “However, the partnership did not work out,” Sarkar stated.

Bora informed that on September 11, the statement of Sarkar was taken by the court.He further alleged that soon after police officer (Marak) came to know that a case was filed against him, he arrested and roughen  up Sarkar in the lock up even as he threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to withdraw the case.

Meanwhile, Bora also alleged that the original records were missing from the court. On this, he said, “The ADM MS Sangma has assured that the case would be reconstructed and asked us to file a fresh case on the matter,” adding “The district court has also fixed September 24 for hearing.”

Meanwhile, Sarkar who is originally from Siliguri, West Bengal at present has to shift base to Shillong living with his family. It is also alleged that the police officer in charge of Borsora outpost have been indulging in illegal tax collection from different traders and businessmen in the area. “We have to pay tax to the police officer every time,” Sarkar alleged.- By Our Reporter
