Cabinet approves PIRF for improving police infra

SHILLONG, AUG 9: The state government has decided to spend Rs 50 lakh under the Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund (PIRF) for repairing and renovation of police stations, police outposts and anti dacoity camps in each of the 12 districts of the state.

 

The decision was approved by the state Cabinet on Tuesday.

 

Addressing newsmen, cabinet minister James K Sangma said the cabinet has approved the proposal for setting up of the PIRF as it was urgently felt necessary that there was a need for an immediate funding of minor repair works, renovation of police infrastructure.

 

“We have realized for the past so many years that critical police infrastructure that needs immediate minor repair work, renovation because of the process involved – have not received funding at the critical time and therefore, this has severely affected the service delivery of the police force,” he said.

 

He informed that the kinds of works which will be taken up under this PIRF would be urgent repair of existing police stations, outposts, fire service stations, anti-dacoity camps, battalions which need to be taken up on priority as decided by the district level committee which would be headed by the deputy commissioner and would have the superintendent of police, commandant of the battalion and project director of the DRDA and executive engineer of the DRDA as members.

 

The minister added that other kinds of works which can be taken up under PIRF would be improvement in the police stations, outposts like construction of toilets, drinking water facility, waiting rooms, painting and electrical work etc which are deemed critical for the functioning of  our police stations, outposts and AD camps.

 

“This would entail an amount of Rs 50 lakh which would be placed at the disposal of the PIRF for each district to the committee headed by the deputy commissioners of the respective districts,” Sangma said.

 

Meanwhile, the cabinet has also approved the speech to be read out during the Independence Day celebrations in the state.
