SHILLONG, FEB 20: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma informed that the report of the magisterial inquiry probing Mookhep firing incident is in its ‘final stage’ of examination and appealed to the ngos of Jaintia hills to call off their proposed indefinite road blockade.
“The report of the inquiry has been submitted and is at the final stage of examination as required and they are submitting it to the government for its consideration,” Sangma told reporters at a sideline of a meeting on Friday.
Sangma also categorically maintained that the government response to this issue will be based on the overall examination of the report. Having said this, he said there are two aspects to the issue; one is that whether the report is good enough to draw a conclusion or if not, then what is the further action that is being recommended after the report and recommendation by inquiry officer has been submitted.
According to Sangma, this is the normal procedure which is required to be followed by the government and this is exactly what is being done.
A conglomeration of five ngos from Jaintia hills had announced the indefinite night road blockade slate to start from February 25 to protest against the government’s delay in making public the probe report.
Four months have already lapse since the magisterial inquiry headed by the additional district magistrate of West Jaintia Hills SS Syiemlieh had submitted its report to the government.
Now there is a demand that the case be handed over to the CBI.- By Our Reporter
