SHILLONG, JUNE 13: Cannabis and cash were seized from a Under Trial Prisoner (UTP) at the Shillong District Jail, after a frisking and screening conducted by the jail staffs.
“The seizure was made while frisking and screening of a UTP by jail staff prior to the admission of the UTP to enter inside the jail,” DG (Prison) BL Buam informed.
3 grams of cannabis and Rs 360 was seized from the UTP. According to Buam, the UTP was brought by police from NongpohcCourt. Buam reiterated that the frisking and screening before the UTP is admitted is mandatory to ensure no illegal items are taken by UTPs or Convicts inside the jail.- By Our Reporter
