Casual workers’ salary

SHILLONG, DEC 22: Meghalaya health minister AL Hek on Tuesday assured to speed up the release of the eight months pending salary of the casual workers serving in the different health centers in Ri Bhoi district.

The assurance was given to a delegation of the Casual Workers Association Health Department (CWAHD) who met him on Tuesday.

“He (Hek) has assured that he would look into the matter and ensure that pending salaries is released at the earliest,” CWAHD president Shanrupa Thangkhiew said.

He informed that the association had also met the minister earlier on the issue and based on his direction, a list of over 90 casual workers along with their date of joining the health centres was submitted to the government.

According to him, the government has failed to pay the salary of the casual workers since the month of April this year. Most of the casual workers have been serving in the different CHCs, PHCs, Civil Hospital, Sub-centre in Ri Bhoi District for the past 10 to 15 years.

When asked, Thangkhiew said, “The reason behind the failure to release our salary was due to lack of fund,” adding “This has affected us as some of the workers’ children could not get their examination results just because of this problem.”

The casual workers are drawing a salary of Rs 4,200 per month.-By Our Reporter
