“If prime minister’s foreign policy is so good why they have not been able to cooperate with police and border forces of neighboring countries in order to check this problem,” AICC spokesperson Gaurab Gogoi told reporters here.
Stating that cattle smuggling is a serious issue, he however said the Government of India is only giving lip service to this issue.
According to him, any crimes which involves smuggling across the requires a very high level of intelligence and requires a sophisticated level of monitoring.
“The onus is with the Centre because they have the wherewithal to coordinate with different states and borders to make it an issue,” he added.
He further stated in view that many agencies (BSF, CBI) are at their disposals, if the Centre is serious they can solve this issue but they are not as they are only making lip service.
Earlier yesterday, a delegation of the butchers association met the chief minister Mukul Sangma urging the intervention of the state government to curb the problem of cattle smuggling to Bangladesh.
They have also demanded for setting up two cattle check-posts at Ri Bhoi and North Garo Hills District.
Asked, Gogoi said, “I am sure that the state government is doing everything it can to ensure a stable development climate for all associations and especially for the local farmers.”
“If cattle smuggling is still taking place, then the Centre will have to take responsibility as they are in charge of the borders,” he added.
