SHILLONG, JAN 19: With the help of CCTV, the Shillong police were able to arrest those who were involved in few assault cases in Khyndialad and also some robbers who were involved in theft cases from places that were under the CCTV surveillances. East Khasi police have already installed CCTV in six out of the twenty-eight designated places in greater Shillong in the last week of December 2014.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang told this website on Monday, “Since we installed the CCTV in the last week of December we have been able to nab few people involved in assault cases in Khyndailad and also some theft cases in other locations with the help of the CCTV.”

Kharkhrang, however, refused to divulge the other locations where CCTVs have been installed. He said that the East Khasi hills police will be completing the installations of the CCTVs in twenty-two other places in greater Shillong by February.

Besides the twenty-eight locations in greater Shillong, ten CCTVs will also be installed in Tura town.

Kharkhrang is hoping that with the installation of the CCTV in all the twenty-eight locations in great Shillong, the crime graphs in the city will come down. He said, “I am hoping that the crime graph in the city will go down significantly after the CCTVs installation process is completed in all the twenty-eight locations in Shillong.”

The state government had sanctioned Rs 3 crore for the installation of the CCTVs as part of its effort to bring crime rate down in the state. – By Our Reporter
