SHILLONG, AUG 30: Even though there is opposition from all quarters Centre is determine to bring railway to Shillong. Minister of State for Railway Rajen Gohain today slammed the state government for its failure to bring railway connectivity in this state.

“The state government has not shown any interest and does not understand how much it will benefit the state, I really don’t understand why did they stopped it,” Rajen Gohain said.

“If railway connectivity develops tourism sector also will develop in Meghalaya and lakhs of people will get job here,” he added saying, “I really don’t understand why state Government has stopped this railway projects”.

Addressing media at the side line the progrmmme on “Sankalp Se Siddhi” and farmers’ awareness cum orientation programme was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, and ICAR ATARI Umiam, Gohain said Meghalaya government lack interest to have railway connectivity and since only around six months left for the poll the new Government which he is confident will be non-Congress Govt will solve the problem.

“This government will surely change and new Government will complete land accusation process soon and the railway work will start immediately,” the Minister said .

Railway has been a big hassle in the state with NGOs, civil Society, Student organisation, regional political parties beside others are continuously opposing railway project.

Blaming state Government for its failure in land accusation for railway project Gohain said,

“Had congress Government finished this land accusation process we would have done lot of railway work here but Government is not doing any such land accusation and that’s why the process has stalled.  Government should take interest in this and should work for railway connectivity”.

He further added, “Our railway officers are in touch with Government but still Government has not done anything in this regard”.

Now as election approaching it is clear that if voted to power BJP surely wants to bring railways to state capital Shillong.

Now it is to be seen how the saffron party convince people on railway issue.
