Centre to examine request for retaining CGST in Shillong

IMG-20181015-WA0046SHILLONG, OCT 15: Health Minister AL Hek today called on Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi to apprise him on the request of the State government to retain the office of Chief Commissioner of Customs and CGST in Shillong.

Hek also handed over Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma letter of request to consider the demand.
Hek said that the Union Minister has assured to examine the matter.
It may be recalled that Government of Meghalaya had allotted land measuring 15 acres for setting up of the office in New Shillong township.
Hek also apprised Union Minister on the urgent need to develop infrastructure in view of the upcoming National Games 2022 in the State.
“Jaitleyji has asked us to send proposals from the Sports Department and has assured all support to ensure that utmost priority would be accorded to build best infrastructure prior to the games,” Hek said.
Later in the day, Hek met Union Tourism Minister Alphons Kannanthanam to request sanction of Rs. 70 cr under ‘Swadesh Darshan’ scheme, which was announced prior to assembly election in Meghalaya.
“Leaders of different Christian denominations and Seng Khasi has approached me seeking support for improving amenities in religious destination of Meghalaya. I have sought sanction of funds that was promised to the people of the State,” Hek said, while informing that Tourism Minister has asked for proposals in this regard.
