Champion’s bail application moved

 Shillong, Sept 7:  GNLA chairman Champion R Sangma’s lawyer Sujit Dey moved a bail petition and also a petition to allow him to meet his client so that he could be briefed Friday.

The GNLA leader was produce before the first class magistrate I Rymbui’s court at around 10.30 am Friday. The bail application was heard at around 2 pm by Rymbui, but he did not passed any order.

Speaking to www.ohmeghalaya.com, Dey said, “ I have moved the two application and the magistrate heard the case but didn’t pass any order.’ He, however, appeared confident that an order will be passed on Monday morning.

During the last appearance on August 26, the court had remanded the militant leader for fourteen days judicial custody. Earlier to that Champion had been remanded to police custody twice as the police were investigating the cases lodged against him in East Khasi hills district.

After his arrested police had registered a case under case no. 27 (7) at Pynursla Police Station, under section 120, 120 (a), 120 (b), 121 read with section 16, 38 under unlawful act. The prevailing act of 1967 is non-bailable but Champion’s lawyer said would defend his client.

Dey had earlier said, “As per the constitution, I am duty bound to defend my client and I shall do so now that I have been officially appointed via the Valakatnama.- By Our Reporter
