Chief minister inaugurates new state guest house in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 17: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma inaugurated the much needed Meghalaya House for the people of his state at Vasant Vihar in South Delhi Saturday. The second Meghalaya House in the country’ capital will provide additional accommodation to the visitors from Meghalaya.

The new state guest house was inaugurated as the existing house at the 9-Aurangzeb Road could not provide the required accommodation to the people of the state. Sangma said that for last few years there has been a significant increase in the number of people from Meghalaya travelling to Delhi and there was an urgent need to provide accommodation to them. With more and more students flooding the capital and more people visiting for medical treatment, the new state guest house will help meet the increasing demands.

Sangma said, “We must look for much more diverse utilisation of state guest houses in the capital. It can be utilised for various important meetings and other purposes” while inaugurating the state guest house.

The inauguration was also attended by several important dignitaries including the ministers from Meghalaya government, AT Mondal, AL Hek, Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh, and parliamentary secretary PW Khongjee.

The Meghalaya House at Vasant Vihar is a three-storey building including basement built at the cost of Rs 25 crore. It has 19 rooms, two dormitories, halls for holding conferences, exhibition and other programmes, two rooms for VVIP, besides five VIP rooms for ministers and officers. The new building is adjacent to Mizoram House and Jharkhand Bhawan. It will help reduce travel time to and from the airport and major hospitals.- By Our Reporter
