CID arrest director for Rs 1 crore scam

energy scamSHILLONG, FEB 22:  The state CID arrested the Meghalaya Non-Conventional Rural Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) project director John E Rodborn for having swindled rupees one crore and requesting for additional release of rupees eighty eight lakhs and eighty seven thousand from the central government after furnishing a forged utilization certificate.

Just before his arrest on Thursday night, Rodborn had been placed under suspension by the state government for having swindle rupees one crore and submitting a forged utilization certificate to the union government without even doing a single work of providing solar plants in the villages.

The court has granted the CID seven days custody of Rodborn What is more, Lyngdoh forged the utilization certificate using the letter head of the Commissioner & Secretary Jopthiaw Lyngdoh and also forging his signature.

Joptiaw Lyngdoh had taken charge of the MNREDA on January 4 and Rodborn had asked for fresh sanction of Rs 88.87 lakh on January 31 from Delhi.

On finding that the project director had forged his signature and also misused his letter head, Lyngdoh filed an FIR against him.
The one crore that the project director had swindled was sanctioned by the central government for providing solar plants for seventy villages in the state.- By Our Reporter
