City editor gets journalism award

SHILLONG, SEPT 11: U Nongsain Hima editor Lambok Thabah shared the spotlight along with other media personalities from across the nation as he walked up the dais to receive the seventh edition of the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award -2011 from none other than the Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan at Hotel ITC Maurya in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Thabah got the prestigious award in journalism in the “J&K and North East” reporting category for series of his news stories on the denial of PDS items including rice and sugar to more than 20 families for years at Mawsynram village in East Khasi hills district.

The 20 families were ostracized for demanding their rights to get the PDS items. However following a series of news stories written by Lambok Thabah in the Khasi daily U Nongsain Hima  edited by him, the families finally got justice.

A delighted Thabah said, “ I am happy that my hard work has been recognized by the Indian Express group for which they have given the award.”

The Ramnath Goenka Journalism Award was instituted by the Indian Express Group of Newspapers in memory of its founder and doyen of Indian journalism Ramnath Goenka. Over the years the award has become the most prestigious journalism awards in India and given in different categories.

Thabah has brought laurel to the state and journalism as a whole by bagging the award.- By Our Reporter
