CM defends CS extension

SHILLONG, JAN 6: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Monday said that the state government felt the needs to utilize the services of senior officer like the chief secretary WMS Pariat for some more time as most of the officers are loaded with work pressure.

Reacting to the criticism made against the six months extension given to the chief secretary, Sangma said that the government welcomes the diverse opinion on the matter but the fact remains that the state government presently needs the service of the chief secretary and that is the reason that six months extension has been given to him.

Sangma said, “   Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I do not feel that it is wrong to extend his (Pariat) service since his service is still needed now.” He informed that most of the senior officers are under tremendous work pressure as they have so many departments to look after, therefore, the government feels that utilizing a senior officer for some more time is actually going to help provide better governance.- By Our Reporter
