CM underscores the need for more force

SHILLONG, JUN 11: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma and the designated union home secretaryAnil Goswami discussed on the requirement of more security forces of the Meghalaya government to be deployed in the militants infested five Garo districts.

Sangma wants additional para military forces to be deployed in the five districts of Garo hills where militants activities have reached a boiling point.

After the one to one meeting between Sangma and Goswami, the latter told reporters on Tuesday, “He (Chief Minister) gave me a perspective of the state government and issues confronting the state.”

Assuring that the union home ministry will definitely look into the demand for dispatching more security forces in Garo hills Goswami said he had taken note of whatever issues were raised by the chief minister during the meeting and promised to see how the union government can responds to the requirement once he reached Delhi.
Recently Sangma had made an ardent request to the union government to dispatch more para-military forces to the state during the meeting of the chief ministers in Delhi.

It is learnt that Sangma emphasized on the need to restore the CRPF companies that were sent from Garo hill to Karnataka  for the assembly elections. Besides this he also wants for deployment of additional six companies of para-military forces to aid the state police in counter insurgency operations.

On his two days visit to Meghalaya, Goswami also met the Governor RS Mooshahary and Director General of Assam Riffles Lt Gen Ranbir Singh.

During his meeting with Singh, Goswami  was briefed on the security situation in the north east with particular reference to management of Indo-Myanmar border.

Later on the day an Assam Rifles release said that the designated home secretary was also apprised about important facet of ‘Civic Action Programmes’ being undertaken by Assam Rifles in the north eastern region and as promotion of literacy in the far flung areas.

The  release claimed that Goswami lauded the efforts of Assam Rifles for
its  part not merely in counter insurgency operations but also for its significant contribution in provisioning the basic amenities to the people staying in the remote and isolated areas of the north eastern states. – By Our Reporter
