Compensation for victims’

SHILLONG, JUNE 19: The state government is coming up with a compensation scheme for victims of various crimes.  Chief minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after the cabinet meeting on Thusday, “We are coming up with a victim compensation scheme for victims of various crimes resulting in injuries to body and mind.”

The chief minister however said the cabinet has decided to refer back the scheme as it requires some more fine-tuning by the department.

The cabinet has also approved the amendment of the rate in taxes in respect of declared goods under the Meghalaya Value Addition Tax Act 2003.  He said, “The tax for the declared goods has been revised to 5 per cent with immediate effect.”.

Earlier, the tax on declared goods was 4 per cent. According to the chief minister, the exercise is an off-shoot of the government’s endeavour to mob up additional resources.

The chief minister informed that the proposal was approved based on the recommendation by the Task Force under the Taxation department which was entrusted with the responsibility for additional resources mobilization and recommendations.- By Our Reporter
