SHILLONG, NOV 2: The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association (MUPSTA) has recently filed a complaint against school managing committees (SMCs) which are allegedly indulging in “illegal practices” by deducting from salary of upper primary teachers.
In a statement issued here on Friday, MUPSTA organizing-cum-publicity secretary EG War informed that the association has submitted the letter to the Director School Education & Literacy (DSEL) for taking necessary action on the matter on October 23.
“We have expressed our deep concern against the unfair practice of the SMCs by deducting the teachers’ salary ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 6,000 per teacher per month which is extremely illegal and unjustified,” War alleged.
Stating that the state government has given sanction specifically for salary to four teachers in each upper primary school, he however said, “But the SMCs have misused the sanction. Therefore, we have urged the director of DSEL to direct all Sub-Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEOs) to issue directions to all the SMCs to immediately stop such illegal practices.”
Meanwhile, the association said that it would be compelled to issue legal notices if such SMCs continue with such unfair means which is seen as great injustice done to the teachers.
It also urged the aggrieved teachers to come forward and inform such cases to the association for taking necessary intervention.
