Cong bigwigs to blitzkrieg Meghalaya

Cong star pixSHILLONG, FEB 6: The Congress will unleash election blitzkrieg just ahead of the February 23 Meghalaya assembly elections with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice president and Congress prime-minister in-waiting Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh descending in Meghalaya and addressing election rallies.

However the proposed February 20 visit is yet to be confirmed from the Congress headquarter and even the places where the three Congress bigwigs are suppose to address the election rallies.

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Deborah Marak told this website on Wednesday afternoon, “ The February 20 date is waiting for approval and even the places where the three Congress leaders are suppose to address elections rallies are to be work out.” She informed that if the date is not suitable then other date which is convenient for the three leaders might be chosen.

However, it is certain that the three Congress leaders will be addressing election rallies at least in Shillong and Tura. Jowai in West Jaintia hills remain uncertain. The three leaders will be accompanied by the new AICC general secretary in-charge of Meghalaya Mukul Wasnik.

With large number of youth and women voters in the state, the Congress is hoping that Rahul Gandhi who has been a star campaigner of the party will weave magic for the Congress in the upcoming assembly polls in Meghalaya.

Congress workers feel that no other leaders from any other political parties can match the charisma of Rahul Gandhi and hopes it will provide the party with the cutting edge over its rivals.

Marak is confident that the Congress will do well in the upcoming polls. She said, “We will be comfortably placed and will certainly form the next government.”

Even with deteriorating law and order problem in Garo hills, Marak is confident that the Congress will do quite well. She said, “ The Congress will be winning maximum seats than other parties in Garo hills and we will do well even in Khasi and Jaintia hills.”

Marak, however, refuse to predict the number of seats the Congress is going to get and said it will be a number that is comfortable and catapult the party to form the next government– By Our Reporter
