Cong observers to scrutinise 149 applicants for party ticket

Shillong, Nov 20:  Congress observers’ general secretary Dhaniram Shandil and secretary Sanjay Bapana will be scrutinising the hundred and forty-nine applications that have been received from the aspirants who are hoping to contest the forthcoming assembly election from the congress party. The scrutiny will take place on Tuesday evening.

The two Congress leaders are expected to reach Shillong late Tuesday afternoon. According to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Deborah Marak the two leaders will hold a meeting with the Congress functionaries at Hotel Polo Tower from 7.30 pm onwards.

Marak said that these two leaders will go through all the applications and discuss about the potential candidates. The Pradesh Congress Election Committee headed by the MPCC president DD Lapang will also sit on Wednesday to go through the same exercise of sifting through the application.

Both the leaders will go to East Garo district accompanied by Marak and other party functionaries on Thursday.

The two leaders will be taking the names of all the candidates who have been shortlisted the Pradesh Election Committee. Marak said she has not been told by the Congress high command when the names of the party candidates will be approved and released. She said, “The two leaders will take the names approved by the Pradesh Election Committee to the high command but honestly you should be asking the observers when they will release the names.”

Of the twenty-eight Congress legislators only former minister Augustine Marak did not applied for the ticket. He represents the Dadenggiri constituency. – By Our Reporter
