Cong observes FR day

SHILLONG, JAN 15: The opposition Congress on Friday observed the Kisan Adhikar Diwas or the farmer’s right day, to express solidarity with struggling farmers of the nation in their demand for repeal of the three farmers’ laws.

Held at the Congress Bhawan here, the party also demanded rolling back of astronomically high prices of petrol and diesel.

Addressing the gathering, MPCC working president James S Lyngdoh said that the Modi government seems to have adopted a strategy of tiring out the protesting farmers, without paying any head of their genuine demands.

“So it is on this Kisan Adhikar Diwas the party invites everyone to join in demanding repeal of the black laws,” he said.

Lyngdoh also spoke at length the Modi government’s anti people measure in increasing the excise duty on petrol from Rs 9.20 per litres (in May 2014) to Rs 32.98 at present and diesel from Rs 3.46 per litre in 2014 to Rs 31.83 presently even when the price of crude has gone down from US dollar 110 per barrel in 2014 to US dollar 50 per barrel today, thereby extorting 19 lakh crore rupees from the people.
