Congress lost its ‘political ground’: CM

SHILLONG, MAR 24: National People’s Party (NPP) national president and chief minister Conrad K Sangma said that the opposition Congress has lost its “political ground” across the country.

Addressing at an election campaign in Mangsang under Darugre GHADC constituency on Wednesday, Conrad said that the Congress have no political will anymore and they have no option in the party even for party president post in state or centre level.

Urging the people not to get carried away by false propaganda of Congress, the chief minister appealed to the people to vote for the NPP and its candidates.

According to him, people should vote for a party that listens to the people.

He also informed that the Centre has accorded sanction of Rs 700 crore for autonomous district councils of Meghalaya, of which GHADC will get around Rs 250 crore for creating development assets for Garo Hills.

At Mangsang, he campaigned for Darugre candidate Henen R Sangma. He also campaign at Rongjeng in East Garo Hills district.

In his speech, NPP leader and Assembly Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira lambasted Congress for their tall promises to reform GHADC.

He said that Congress is expert in lying, they are not in power in State or Centre, how can they transform GHADC.

He urged the people to be conscious of their rights and vote for NPP to ensure concerted development in the State.

Government Chief Whip Marcuise Marak said that prior to NPP regime in council, the Congress party has failed the council with financial mismanagement. He told the gathering that NPP has been working to create transparent financial and management system in the council. He said that NPP is committed to further strengthen the GHADC. He urged the public not to be buy the lies being spread by the Congress party.

The Chief Minister also campaigned for Denang T Sangma, candidate of Williamnagar GHADC constituency.

At Dobu, NPP leaders lashed at Congress party and urged the people to support NPP.

Shira further enlightened the public about different intervention govt has taken to fast track development. He also told people that load shedding and power issues were offshoot of corrupt practice of the Congress regime as they had signed an agreement with NTPC in 2007, which has led the current government to pay 11 cr per month to NTPC even if power was not obtained from them.

He also told the gathering that NPP government has been working to fix the wrongs done by Congress regime in Meghalaya.
