Congress-mukt Bharat will never happen: MPCC chief

SHILLONG, MAY 26: Congress chief Celestine Lyngdoh today said the BJP’s slogans like ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ will never happen as the Congress will come back to power at the Centre next year.

In the general election campaign of 2014, the BJP had called for a Congress-mukt Bharat with an aim of finishing off of the Congress party.

“Congress-mukt Bharat will never happen. The Congress will come back in 2019,” Lyngdoh told reporters while slamming the poor performance of the BJP-led NDA government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Saturday.

He said that the Congress will try to form the government along with the UPA partners after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held next year.

“But the Congress will never say BJP-mukt Bharat because we all need to grow to give a vibrant democracy to India,” he added.

Asked, Lyngdoh said in a democratic country like India to say words like Congress-mukt Bharat only shows the mentality of the BJP that they do not like anybody who have a different opinion than them.

According to him, the Bharatiya Janata Party do not tolerate anyone who raises their voices against their plan as they want everyone to just fall in line to what they dictate.

The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president said democracy can only survive when all partners are equally strong to give vibrant democratic nature for the people to run the country.

“The NDA in the first term says Congress-mukt Bharat, if they win the second term they will say AIADMK-mukt Bharat or TMC-mukt Bharat, at the end what will remain? Only the BJP and will that not be dictatorship?” he asked.

Stating that citizens of the country have to be very careful, Lyngdoh said, “Any issue that we raised it is only the BJP and their cadres who can decide who is patriotic and nationalistic and no one else.”

Rating the performances of the NDA government in the past four years, the Narendra Modi-led government has failed on all fronts and is good at making false promises by betraying the people of the country.

“The BJP’s fourth anniversary is also the fourth anniversary of betrayal in which the government under the leadership of Modi has given false promises to the people of the country. The country has no future under the present Centre government,” he stated.

He further said that the BJP made the people to believe that it can achieve all its promises by 2019 and now they are saying they will do it by 2023.

Referring to the BJP’s claim to create 2 crore jobs every year, the Congress leader said in the last four years, BJP government should have created 8 crore jobs but as per data available from Labor Bureau even 8 lakh new jobs have not been created.

Stating that the demonetization has led to job losses of 15 lakh, he said that a flawed GST has further ensured a slump in economic activity.

“An economy that is in a nosedive has led to further destructiooon of job opportunities. All in all, India faces a massive job crisis for the young, but a clueless Modi government has no solution to offer,” he said.

Lyngdoh also hit at the Modi government for failing to have Pak policy despite promising to come up with robust foreign policy and a policy to deal with neigbouring Pakistan andn China with an iron hand and 56 inch chest.

He said that Modi government continues to flounder from ‘Sari-Shawl Diplomacy’ to uninvited visits to Pakistan, but it has yielded no results. “Over 371 jawans have been martyred in Jammu & Kashmir in various terrorist attacks and over 3,000 border ceasefire violations have happened since May 2014,” he said.

On the hand, China has occupied Doklam Plateau by creating a military complex upto 10 kms from India Army. China has now built a road at South Doklam overlooking the ‘chicken’s neck’, which is looking at the Siliguri corridor. In his no agenda China visit the prime minister said nothing in terms of ensuring national security, he said.

Condemning the Centre for the hike in petrol and diesel prices, the MPCC chief said, “Petrol and diesel prices are at an all time high with Modi government having fleeced 10 lakh crores from the pockets of common men in last four years by raisinig excise duties 11 times. Despite public demand neither the BJP government at the Centre nor the BJP-ruled states are ready to reduce the excise duties and VAT.”

Pointing out that banking sector is in peril with NPAs crossing over 8 lakh crores and banks facing severe financial crunch, Lyngdoh said, “Modinomics has failed India’s economics.”

Meanwhile, the Congress leader said that the party is going to put the BJP and its allies to task.

“The Congress will work hard and ensure people get what they deserve,”  he said while also rubbishing the claims of the BJP that it has pump in so much funds to develop the North East region as in reality nothing was on the ground.

He said the Congress is preparing to create awareness through various means to englighten the people on the matter. Admitting that the party financially is not well off, Lyngdoh however said but that does not mean will end the fight.
